DuraFlex Chimney Liner & Rebuild Nationwide

Every visit starts with

Level 1 sweep and inspection to the NFPA 211 annual standard - flue, crown, cap, and flashing checked and photographed

Worth knowing

Chimney sweep logs do not sweep chimneys. They loosen some creosote - which then falls where a brush and vacuum still have to collect it.

DuraFlex Chimney Liner & Rebuild in Rockville: What to Know First

We provide independent DuraFlex chimney liner and rebuild work throughout Rockville, and most liner replacement jobs are finished in a single day once the old liner is out and the flue is measured. A standard DuraFlex stainless liner install in a Rockville home runs $2,400 to $4,700 depending on flue height, access, and whether the old liner fights on the way out. We are not a DuraFlex authorized dealer or warranty center. We’re the company you call when the liner fails and you want an honest answer about whether it needs replacing at all.

This page is for Rockville homeowners who already have a DuraFlex liner, or had one installed years ago, and are now looking at rust stains, flaking metal, draft problems, or a chimney rebuild estimate that came in somewhere between shocking and insulting. If that’s you, call (240) 716-5865 and you’ll reach a live person. Likely Wendell Pike, our owner, or someone on his crew who has actually held a DuraFlex liner in their hands this week.

How DuraFlex Products Fail - and How We Fix Them

DuraFlex makes solid stainless liners, and they generally hold up better than most. But they do fail, and the failure usually announces itself in a specific way. Here’s what we regularly see in Rockville chimneys:

  • The DuraFlex 316L flexible liner developing pinholes at the corrugation peaks. This is the most common failure we pull out of Rockville flues. Condensation and flue gases eat at the thin spots where the metal flexes during installation, and once pinholes start, they spread. The symptom is a faint metallic smell in the house when the fireplace has been running hot, or a fine rust-colored dust falling onto the damper. Fix: liner replacement. Once a flexible liner has pinholes, patching is a temporary bandage on a flue that vents into your home.
  • The DuraFlex Smooth Wall rigid section joints separating after ten-plus years. Rigid liners are heavier, and in older Rockville homes with settling foundations or chimney crowns that crack, the joints between rigid sections can pull apart a fraction of an inch. That gap lets flue gas into the chimney chase rather than out the top. We find this most often during chimney rebuilds in Rockville’s older neighborhoods like Twinbrook and East Rockville, where the house has shifted just enough to stress every metal component in the flue. Fix: joint re-securing if caught early, or a smooth wall replacement section if the old metal is fatigued.
  • Improperly sized DuraFlex liner from a previous install causing draft failure. A liner too big for the appliance never gets hot enough to draft properly. A liner too small chokes the fire. Both get blamed on the fireplace when the liner is the problem. This is the classic “the old company said this was the right size” call we get in Rockville. Fix: measure the actual BTU output of the appliance, measure the flue, and if the numbers don’t match, a correct DuraFlex liner goes in. The fire burns right after that.
  • The DuraFlex tee and cap assembly rusting out faster than the liner itself. The cap takes weather, rain, and squirrel abuse year-round. Rockville’s freeze-thaw cycles and summer humidity are rough on the cap, and when the cap rusts through, rain runs directly down the inside of the liner, mixing with creosote and accelerating corrosion from the inside out. Fix: a new stainless DuralFlex-compatible cap, and if the internal rust stains show the liner was already damaged, we address that at the same time. Catching the cap failure early often saves the liner.
  • Aftermarket parts of unknown provenance causing warranty disputes. Some Rockville homes have a DuraFlex liner with a non-DuraFlex cap or connector that was swapped in during a previous repair. It fits, it works, but if the liner fails under warranty, DuraFlex will not cover it because a non-factory part was in the system. Fix: our crew uses either genuine DuraFlex components or quality equivalents that maintain the warranty position. We’ll tell you which is which before any part goes in.

Our DuraFlex Chimney Liner & Rebuild Process

Here’s how a typical DuraFlex job goes at a Rockville home, from the first call to the last sweep of the shop broom:

  1. 1
Call and set the appointment. A live person answers. We give you a real arrival window, and if the crew is running late, we call. No sitting around wondering.
  2. 2
Wendell or his crew arrives and inspects. Camera goes down the flue, we check the liner, the joints, the crown, the cap, the smoke chamber. You see the footage. We explain what we see in plain English.
  3. 3
We tell you what actually needs doing. If the liner has life left, we’ll tell you that. If it doesn’t need doing, Wendell will tell you. His rule, not ours.
  4. 4
Parts decision. Genuine DuraFlex where the warranty depends on it, quality equivalent where it doesn’t and we can save you money. The choice gets made on the driveway, not in a call center.
  5. 5
The repair or rebuild. Old liner comes out, new liner goes in, joints sealed, cap installed. If a partial rebuild is needed, masonry gets repaired before the liner goes back in, never after.
  6. 6
Test, clean, guarantee. We run the draft test, we clean up, and the 90-Day Done Right Promise is yours in writing. If it’s not right, one call brings us back at no charge.

What DuraFlex Chimney Liner & Rebuild Costs in Rockville

Rockville pricing for DuraFlex liner work doesn’t swing wildly from company to company, but the honest spread matters. Here’s what we quote, and what you’re actually paying for:

  • DuraFlex 316L flexible liner replacement (single-story flue): $2,400 - $3,400
  • DuraFlex 316L flexible liner replacement (two-story or steep-access flue): $3,200 - $4,700
  • Smooth Wall rigid DuraFlex liner section replacement: $1,800 - $3,000 depending on how many sections
  • Partial chimney rebuild (crown, top courses, or spalling brick) before liner replacement: add $900 - $2,500
  • Full chimney rebuild from the roofline up: $6,500 - $12,000 in Rockville, more if the flue needs custom work

What moves the price: flue height, roof access, whether the old liner comes out in one piece or needs to be cut out, and whether the masonry around it is still sound. We give you the number before a single tool comes off the truck, and that’s the number on the invoice. Call (240) 716-5865 for an exact quote on your DuraFlex liner.

Why Rockville Homeowners Call Top Hat Chimney for DuraFlex Work

We’ve been working Rockville chimneys since 1999, and Wendell Pike has been inside enough of them to know that every street in this town has its own patterns. Twinbrook chimneys from the 1950s hide surprises. East Rockville flues from the 1920s and 1930s have their own character. And Rockville homes with a DuraFlex liner installed ten or fifteen years ago are hitting the age where the decision is repair or replace, and the wrong call costs real money.

We make that call honestly. If your liner has a few years left, we say so. If a HeatShield or Gelco treatment extends the life of what you have without a full DuraFlex replacement, we recommend that instead. And when the liner does need to come out, the crew that shows up is the crew Wendell trained, uniformed, background-checked, and backed by the 90-Day Done Right Promise. No national chain. No stranger in a rented truck. Just the same faces you’d run into at the Rockville farmers market on Saturday.
